Now, the password manager service is completely doing away with individual licenses in favor of memberships. Naturally, more and more users got inclined towards a monthly subscription or membership for 1Password as it provided additional benefits. So, 1Password 7 was launched in 2018 where users were given a choice between a standalone license for the service or a monthly subscription on. This further made software upgrades quite challenging due to their paid nature. Basically, the password manager service required license per platform and user. While 1Password gradually made it to other platforms, it still required licenses on an individual basis. Hence, the popular password manager service was initially launched only for macOS X 10.4 and required individual software licenses. 1Password first came out when monthly subscription or membership was not that common in the software domain.
